Welcome to the last day of our journey through the Chakras, specifically during pregnancy, birth and postpartum healing. Today, we are covering the final & seventh Chakra: the Crown.


Day 7: Crown Chakra

The Crown Chakra governs spirituality, your connection to the Divine and to the Universe. Feeling disconnected from your Higher Power (i.e., God/dess, the Divine, the Source, Universal Spirit/Energy, etc.) can gum up this Chakra. If you’re Atheist, you still have this Chakra, lovely! 😉 What will clog it up for you is any disconnection to this belief or your “inner truth”. It’s obviously healthy to question our own beliefs and path periodicaly, in order to grow as a spiritual being. However, feeling like a lost soul is something we would like to avoid!

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, pregnancy and birth are very spiritual journeys. Ones that change us both physicially and emotionally. Whether you are planning on having a home birth or hospital birth, you CAN have a wonderful experience. All 3 of my previous births were in a hospital (and this 4th should be as well), and they’ve all been very magickal for me – even with an IV in my arm!

One thing that has helped me through these births is my connection to the Goddess Brigid (also mentioned in yesterday’s post). She is the Celtic Goddess of Midwifery, Poetry and Smithing. I call on her presence whenever labor starts and she’s a trememdous support for me during the entire process.

If you don’t have a particular Goddess or Deity you call on for support, you may have a particular Birthing Spirit Guide that would love to be at your side during labor and delivery. Below is a short meditation I wrote for you to meet your guide, so you may call upon them for aid (not just at birth, but any time before, during and after your pregnancy!).


First, get into a comfortable seated position. You can also lay on your side or back – which ever is most comfortable for you! Make sure you are grounded (that you don’t have to pee!) and are free from any distractions for at least 20 minutes (toddlers and cats anyone? 🙂 ).

Close your eyes and start to focus on your breaths. Take a large, deep breath in, then slowly exhale. With each deep inhale, imagine peace and calm flowing through your breath and filling your lungs. With each exhale, imagine any worries or stressses leaving your body. Continue to breath until you’ve expelled all worry and are filled with a sense of serenity. 

In your mind’s eye, you are seated in a comfortable room. The lights are slightly dim and  the room is warm, but not too hot – it is the perfect temperature. You are seated on a plushy chair, completey supported and comfortable. Everything feels soft and you feel perfectly at peace. 

Across from you is a doorway, covered by a lovely sage-green curtain. From behind the curtain you know that your Birth Guide is waiting patiently to meet you for the first time. 

A figure slides back the curtain and begins to enter the room – you start to see your Guide for the first time:

Is your Guide human? Is it short or tall? Is it a Male or Female? What other characteristics do you notice? Don’t try to force the visual, just see what is there.

Your Guide moves toward you and smiles warmly. Ask your Guide for a name. Do they answer? What do they say?

Spend a few moments with your guide in this sanctuary. What messages do they have for you and your pregnancy / delivery / postpartum care?

When you feel ready, thank your Guide for their time and ask if you can call upon them in the future. Think of this sanctuary you have built as a sacred room for you and your Birth Guide to meet, whenever you feel the need. 

As your Guide moves back through the doorway, behind the curtain, slowly start to bring your focus back to your breathing. Focus on taking deep, slow breaths. Feel the air expand your lungs and contract with each exhale. 

Start to feel how your body is positioned in the physical plane. Notice the weight of your arms and legs – wiggle your fingers and toes, if needed. When you’re ready, slowly open your eyes. 

It may take a few minutes to adjust after the meditation and that’s normal! Don’t worry if you didn’t get a clear picture of your Birth Guide the first time. Keep practicing with the meditation until you see your Guide clearly and are able to communicate. Your Guide will reveal themselves with time! 🙂


Crystals for balancing the Crown Chakra:

  • Herkimer Diamond – These crystals are a type of Clear Quartz, found in Herkimer, New York. They have wonderful clarity and help support dream recall and visualization.
  • Lepidolite – Lepidolite is considered the “Stone of Transition”, which is perfect considering pregnancy is a pretty big transition! 🙂 It also supports restful sleep, reduces stress and promotes our connection to the Divine.
  • Desert Rose Selenite (Selenite Gypsum Flowers) – These beautiful little selenite rosets are perfect for helping connect us to the Divine and our Higher Selves. They help raise our vibrations and gently cleanse our auric fields.

Essential Oils for balancing the Crown Chakra:

  • Ylang Ylang – A wonderful floral aroma, Ylang Ylang helps balance out our Crown Chakra and is a wonderful scent to diffuse during meditations.
  • Patchouli – If Ylang Ylang is too strong of a floral scent, Patchouli is a good alternative. It has a very earthy scent, but still functions the same as Ylang Ylang in connecting us to the Divine. Both scents are very spiritually uplifting!

*Please stick with aromatic use or be sure to dilute appropriately for topical use! Pregnant mommas are super-sensitive to EO’s. 🙂
