Welcome to the 2nd post in my “Top 5” series, lovelies! I hope you’re having a relaxed Friday afternoon.
My metaphysical practice has primarily centered around crystals, tarot and Reiki. I received my level 2 Reiki certification in the Usui Reiki Tradition in 2012 and received my certification in Crystal Healing this past May.
However, prior to graduating from my crystal healing course, I began to be drawn to essential oils. I started seeing posts about them pop up all over the blogs and Instagram feeds I follow. That’s when I stumbled across Dr. Aly with WhereJuniperGrows – the founder of a doTERRA team called United Blossoms. Her honest and down-to-Earth approach with using essential oils had me hooked instantly. Within a couple weeks I had joined the Blossoms United team and have enjoyed using essential oils not just in my metaphysical practice, but in my every day life as well!
Without further ado, here are my “top 5” favorite essential oils and why I’ve been using them non-stop for the past 6 months:
1). Lavender – Oh boy, this is truly my favorite oil of the bunch. Lavender reduces anxiety and diffusing this oil is a great way to wind-down, especially right before bed. I often diffuse Lavender and Lemon during the day for a cleansing yet calming atmosphere in the house. I use my Lavender rollerball on my wrists at night to promote a good night’s sleep. I also diffuse Lavender by itself when meditating, especially with Amethyst – the two pair incredibly well together!
2). Lemon – As mentioned above, I love diffusing Lemon mixed with Lavender during the day. Lemon cleanses the air physically and spiritually. Lemon has also gotten me through mornings when morning sickness has been especially intense. A few whiffs of Lemon and I’m back on track. Plus, this is my kiddos’ favorite scent and smelling it INSTANTLY lifts their spirits. Lemon has been my best ally in dealing with cranky or sick little ones.
3). Patchouli – This oil has an instant grounding effect for me. Perhaps it’s from growing up burning incense and spending my youth in metaphysical shops, but the Earthly smell of Patchouli centers me and reminds me of my connection to the Goddess. I can’t get enough of this one! I diffuse it whenever I’m working a New or Full Moon ritual or when I need that reminder of my connection to the Divine.
4). Frankincense – Frankincense has been another favorite for diffusing during meditation. Frankincense is just as grounding for me as Patchouli but has a cleaner and spicier scent that reminds me of sacred space. Because of this, I love to diffuse 3 drops of Frankincense with 3 drops of Bergamot or Wild Orange to “smudge” a room without the harshness of sage.
5). Peppermint – Peppermint beadlets are little drips of peppermint oil with coconut oil in a tiny ball/beadlet that you pop in your mouth, and they’ve been a huge help during the cold and allergy seasons! I take 1-2 beadlets to clear my nasal passages and give one to the kiddos whenever they’ve had a sore throat. If you don’t want to take the oil internally, you can diffuse a few drops of Peppermint with Lemon to clear the air in your home during and after illnesses or inhale directly with a few deep breaths over an open bottle. Peppermint also works wonders on headaches and nausea.
Each of these oils are fantastic to use at anytime, but I’ve also made them part of my “birthing kit” that I’ll be taking with me to the hospital when it is time to deliver, as each oil is safe for use from the second trimester through delivery. 🙂
